Yesterday (Wednesday) the redundant dorma window at the top of the stairs and the wall around it was completely removed and replaced by a new partition wall and doorway into the new bathroom.  The wall between the bathroom and bedroom was also completed to keep the place vaguely secure.  They also did some more work in our new bedroom but it was too dark to see much when I got home, so I’m not sure how far they got.

This morning, the roofer arrived just as I left and by the end of the day he had laid the lead gulley between the two sloping roofs, cemented in the edging tiles (I’m not sure if this is what these are called but they sit directly on top of the outside wall underneath the battens and will eventually be used help to seal the edges of the roof) and he even managed to get the first few tiles laid at the front.

The plumber also came and there are now masses of pipes in the utility room ceiling, including the gas supply to the new boiler and the water supply (both mains and rainwater) to the bathrooms and kitchen.

In the mean time, the builders did some more work in the bathroom, finished off lining the ceiling of our bedroom and have put up the studwork for the en-suite.

At one time there were, I’m told, 9 workmen here all at the same time.

This evening we all climbed out of the bathroom window to have a good look around the new bedrooms and take some photos.  It’s all very exciting.

Tomorrow morning we have a meeting with the electrician so we spent this evening going over the plans to make final decisions about positioning of sockets and lights, etc.
