End of Week 15

by Liz & Matt Coates Aug.05.2006 2:29:07 am

This week started well, with beams being added for the flat part of the roof and a ‘lay-board’ (this is a piece of board laid diagonally on top of the rafters to form the valley where the two roofs meet).  On Wednesday Andrew got back from his holiday and by the end of the day on Thursday they had fixed the ridge board into the existing roof, finished all of the rafters forming the valley between the two roofs and completed the gable end.

All of the major brickwork is now done and all that remains to do on the roof structure is to remove the dorma window at the back (which is in the way of the new roof) and add the new dorma at the front (so that Emma can have a window in her bedroom).  They don’t want to do these until the roofer is ready to start to minimise the amount of time that we will have large holes in the roof. The roofer was supposed to be coming this week to discuss schedules, but I don’t know whether he turned up or not.

Still no progress with a plumber but we have faith.  It’s possible that they have been scared off by the combination of a full conventional refit, plus the rainwater system and the solar panels, so I have suggested that we ask them to break down the quote into the three separate items.  We’re already commited to the rainwater system but the solar panels could be added later relatively easily.

Our holiday club starts on Monday (Going Bananas!) so I will be off work all of next week.  I’ve been pretty busy with this for the last few weeks but hopefully I will be able to catch up with the photos once this is over.
