Roofer on the Fiddle

by Liz & Matt Coates Oct.19.2006 11:17:04 pm

No financial impropriety implied - it’s just that I’ve been waiting for the right moment to use that line for weeks.

On Tuesday, Wonder of Wonders (Miracle of Miracles), the roofer turned up and laid the flat roof at the back.  He was supposed to come back on Wednesday and Thursday but, remaining true to his Tradition, he failed to appear.

In the mean time everyone else has been doing stirling work - Sunrise, Sunset - and the upstairs is now almost completely finished (”To Life!”, we cry).  Today, the last of the plastering was finished off and the doors were hung.  The electrician also came and fitted most of the remaining light fittings, switches and sockets and has rewired all of the upstairs lighting.  There is just a little more woodwork to do on the landing before they move on to the downstairs.

The plumber is supposed to be coming tomorrow to start fitting radiators upstairs so we have spent the last two evenings painting odd bits of wall and skirting board behind where the radiators will be.  Liz is working her shift as I type.  Of course, If I Were a Rich Man I’d be paying someone else to do the decorating as well but I’m sure it will provide a wonderful sense of achievement when it’s all done.  (Yes, I know that last one was a bit contrived but I had to get it in there somehow.  If you haven’t got it by now then all I can say is that your musical education has been severely lacking and you should go and buy a copy of the DVD immediately and keep watching it until you’ve learned all the words to all the songs.)
