Floor beams have now appeared over the rest of the ground floor and most of the internal walls have been completed.  For the first time we can now get an impression of the size of each the new rooms.  The one slight problem is that, with the wall between the kitchen and the playroom at waist height, we can no longer get out of the back of the house.  So, until we knock the new doorway through from the kitchen into the new part of the building (which we want to leave as late as possible), we will be walking around the front of the building to get to the back garden again.  We are now waiting for the scaffolders to turn up so that work can begin on the first floor.



We have finally decided to go for broadband, partly because of the additional internet call charges we’ve been racking up doing this blog, and we placed the order last weekend.  On Thursday afternoon we lost our phone line, which was only restored when a BT engineer came out on Friday afternoon.  We never found out what the problem was but I suspect that they messed something up when they were attempting to set up the broadband connection.  However, the equipment (5-port ethernet modem router, £17.99 from ebuyer.co.uk) which was supposed to arrive on Friday is delayed due to problems with their dispatch system, so we won’t be able to try it out until Monday.
