More steel

by Liz & Matt Coates Jul.06.2006 10:23:48 pm

The steel arrived as expected today and we now have a steel beam reinforcing the existing roof purlin (that’s the long wooden beam that runs the length of the house and supports the roof).  This is mainly needed to support the extra weight of the new roof that will be built at the back of the building.  Inside the house a large part of the ceiling above the landing has been removed to expose the existing purlin, but apart from that there has been very little mess so far.

One of the two new steel purlins for the roof extension has been fitted and the other is ready to be lifted into place tomorrow.
